Palladian Architecture Bath
My photobook: The City of Bath – Enduring Structures and Transient Lives, mentions Andrea Palladio (1508–1580), who was an Italian Renaissance architect. Palladio's work had a lasting impact on Western architecture. He is well know known for his classically inspired villas, palaces, and churches, which emphasized symmetry, proportion, and harmony, drawing heavily from ancient Roman architecture. Palladio's work provided a clear source of inspiration to the architects that designed Bath's Georgian architecture. Bath's transformation in the 18th century clearly reflects Palladio’s focus on symmetry, proportion, and classical Roman elements. Palladio’s legacy helped shape Bath into a harmonious, classical city, now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
